THE GRECO METHOD OF YOGA

The Greco method of yoga is a combination of 20 percent Yin and 80 percent Hatha; using a sequence of asanas in high heat allows the muscles to stretch and strengthen creating balance and restoring all systems to optimal health. Consistent practice will create a physical, mental and spiritual harmony that will be felt in all areas of your life.

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.

Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

HATHA YOGA

Yoga means to yoke, or to join two things together, hence hatha yoga is meant to join together sun (masculine, active) energy with moon (feminine, receptive) energy, thus producing balance and greater power in an individual.  Hatha is a flowing syle of yoga, done in a heated room, that links the postures together in coordination with the breath.  There is strong focus on the core strengthing using techniques uncommon to most other style of yoga. Balances out with great flexibility exercises for the hips, legs, back and shoulders.  This is a challenging class that builds strength as well as flexibility, creates openess in all areas of the body and gives one a sense of relaxation and well-being.  Variatons can be made to accommodate all levels of students.



What to Bring to Class

Yoga Mat: Mats can be rented for $2.00 or ordered at the school

Comfortable Clothing: Clothing is a personal choice, during hot classes you will sweat – dress for physical comfort as well as mental comfort; yoga is done in bare feet.

Water: Water is suggested – we encourage you to stay hydrated during your class.
